Marta and Messi voted FIFA World Players of the Year

Brazilian women’s football star Marta won the FIFA world player of the year award for the fourth consecutive year on Monday. Marta, who plays professionally for Los Angeles Sol, has won the FIFA world player of the year award the most.
American Mia Hamm won the inaugural women’s award in 2001, winning again in 2002. Germany’s Birgit Prinz then picked up the award three years in a row from 2003-2005
FC Barcelona and Argentinian superstar Messi, was named FIFA World Player of the Year. The 22 year old was also named the best player in Europe a few months ago. Messi, easily defeated the last two winners— Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. Messi was the runner up the last two years.
