What is your New Year Soccer Resolution?

Practicing soccer tricks

Practicing soccer tricks

Every New Year alomst everyone makes a New Year’s Resolution, but wheather he or she sticks to it or not, is a different thing.  But most resoultion are broken in just a few days, weeks or months.

We are about to say goodbye to the old year 2009, and welcome in the New Year 2010.  Many athletes are going to have a New Year Resolution regardless of what sport they play.  One of the keys to making sure you stick to your resolution is setting a goal that is challenging and yet reachable.

Some of your New Year Soccer Resolutions could be to improve your first touch on the ball; to improve your juggling score; to improve your attitude towards temmates or opposing players; to improve  your work rate in games and practice; or to spend sometime every week practicing on your own.

Once you have set your New Year’s Resolution the next step is to put in the required trainning to help you maintian or accomplish your New Year’s goals.

So try to come up with a meaningful and challenging goal for yourself.  Use that as an incentive  to accomplish something that is really important to you.  I am sure we would all love to improve some aspect of our game or strengthen a skill for the New Year.

Although New Year Resolutions are easy to make and easy to break think seriously about making some of your own New Year Resolutions and share them with me.

Please leave your response in the comment area. I would love to read all of them and possibly help remind you to keep them.

All the best for  the New Years and Keep working hard to achive your goals, because I will be working extreemly, extreemly hard to achieve mine. :)

The famous Cruyff Turn

by ddemmin on Dec.28, 2009, under Soccer Tips

The Cut Back

Wouldn’t it be neat if you invented a soccer dribbling move and it became famous.  Especially a dribbling move that is taught to every soccer player in the world at an early age.  Well, The Dutch legend Johan Cruff  mad  the Cruyff turn or as it is somtimes called, the “Cut Back Move” famous.

The Cut Back is a dribbling move that all soccer players should master before the age of 12.  It’s a move that is used to get pass opposing defenders. It can be used as a fake shot, a fake pass, a fake cross  or  just to create space.

Even the best players in the world uses the “Cut Back” move.  Why don’t you?

Although there are many young soccer players that  practice the “Cut Back” move, they have no idea who made it famous.

Take a look at the the  Dutch legend that made  the “Cut Back” move famous.  In this video Yohan uses the “Cut Back” move to fake the cross to get by his opponent.

Dwyane to Attempt a Guinness Book Record for Juggling a Soccer Ball in a Fundraiser Event.

by ddemmin on Dec.17, 2009, under Fundraiser

Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children Fundraiser

Demmin

Demmin

I am having a fundraising event for the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, MS.  I would like to bring the soccer community in Jackson as well as throughout the entire state of MS together in order to help raise money for the children’s hospital.  100% of the money raised will be donated to the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

Description of the Event.

I am going to have a juggling competition. The State of MS vs Me.  Every soccer player on every recreational and/or select team would have one try to juggle as many as he or she can.  The individual juggle from all participants would be tallied and it would be my challenge to beat the combined total.  This amount could easily add up to over one hundred thousand juggles. If that proves to be the case, it would take me more than 12 hours of nonstop juggling to surpass that number.  I will take only one try in an attempt to beat the combined total of everyone on May 1st 2010.  Each participant would be asked to donate $5.   As I mentioned above every dollar from this event will be donated to the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

As an added incentive I would also like to attempt to beat the combined juggles of the parents that have a child on the teams.  Parents on each team could try to beat their kids’ combined juggling score.  Each parent would be expected to donate $5 (or more) in order to compete.  My goal would be to beat both the amount of the combined juggle of the kids and the parents as well as the Guinness Book of World Records Time for juggling, (which is 24 hours). You might say, “Dwyane is crazy” how can he eat, drink, use the bathroom or even sleep?  I have heard it all.   And I must agree:  Maybe I am a little crazy.

This will definitely be the most difficult, tiring, challenging task I have ever attempted.  I will have to concentrate for every second, every minute and every hour that I last.  But I think it would be an amazing and interesting challenge; one that I feel up to !!

In addition to the juggling event, I will also be hosting a 3v3 soccer tournament for kids and adults of all ages.

So please help me make this a fun, exciting and spectacular event for everyone involved, especially for the children that need the Blair E. Batson Hospital for their survival.

Thank you for your consideration,

Dwyane Demmin

ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES FOR JUGGLING EVENT WILL BE POSTED IN A FEW DAYS.

Juggling Fundraiser/Children’s Hospital

“Kids Helping Kids”

Every day hundreds of us are able to be involved in the game we love.  We are blessed to be able to play, coach and participate in the “Beautiful Game” of soccer.  Most of us take this opportunity for grated and we give little thought about not being able to participate.  While we are enjoying the game and agonizing over missed shots there are hundreds of kids not far from us who do not have the same opportunity.  These kids are facing the real game, and that is the game of life.

Decisions and opportunities made on their behalf do not represent missed goals, but maybe a life cut short by a dreadful childhood illness.  Everyday children face this life and death struggle at Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, MS.

Blair E. Bats0n is a teaching and research hospital and relies on donation and support from others to carry on its mission.  All children are treated regardless of the ability to pay.  Wouldn’t it be neat if the soccer community could come together for one day, one event to help saved the  lives of those kids that are suffering? “Kids Helping Kids” is the theme and effort by Coach Dwyane Demmin to do exactly this.

Coach Demmin has long been regarded as a great soccer player and coach.  He played collegian soccer at Belhaven College, has played professionally for a number of years and coached St Joe Catholic High School to 8 consecutive  appearances in the MS State Soccer Championship, winning 6 State Championships. In 2009 Coach Demmin was named as the MHSAA Coach of the Year for Boys Soccer.

On May 1st 2010, Coach Demmin will attempt to beat the combineddr.pullen coloring with patient juggles of every soccer player who participates. He would like for each player on each team to take one try and juggle as many times as they can.  The individual juggles of each player on each team would be totaled. Coach Demmin will take one try and attempt to beat the combined total of every participant.  At the same time, he will also attempt the Guinness Book of World Records for juggling a soccer ball(24 hours).

In addition Coach Demmin will be hosting a 3 v 3 soccer tournament for kids and adults of all ages and abilities.  All money collected from donation and entry fees will be donated to the  Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.  Let’s come together as a soccer community and support the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.  “Kids helping Kids”

A Few Tips For Soccer Players

by ddemmin on Dec.14, 2009, under Soccer Tips

A few tips for young soccer players to remember when defending and attacking.

In General

  • Be positive, avoid being negative to your teammates.
  • Give your best at all times, both in practice and games.
  • Communicate on the field. Every time you make a pass you should give some type of instruction. (eg. man on, turn, etc.)
  • Smile and enjoy the game.

When Defending:

  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look around to see who is free and who needs to be marked up. Don’t be afraid to call on someone to mark up.
  • Always get behind the ball on defense.
  • Always stay goal side when defending.
  • Be aggressive when tackling.
  • Slow down attackers by jockeying. Do not commit yourself by dividing in unless you are 100% sure of winning the ball.

When Attacking:

  • Be able to strike the ball with both feet.
  • Always look around before receiving a pass.
  • Don’t hide behind opposing players and call for the ball.
  • Move to the correct angles to give support.
  • Don’t be afraid to take on defenders when necessary.
  • Shoot in tight spaces, especially when a keeper is not expecting you to shoot.

Liverpool VS AC Milan

by ddemmin on Dec.11, 2009, under Uncategorized

May 25th 2005

This is another classic, AC Milian vs Liverpool at the UEFA Champions League Final.  At the end of regulation and overtime the score was tied at 3-3. Liverpool eventually won 3-2 on penalty kicks.

This game was shaping up to be a blowout because AC Milian was leading 3-0 at the end of the half.  Instead it turned out to be one of the most exciting finish in a UEFA Championship Game.  Take a look at some of the goals.

April 23, 2003: One of the Best I have seen

by ddemmin on Dec.09, 2009, under Uncategorized

Manchester United 4, Real Madrid 3

UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg  at Old Trafford in Manchester, England on April 23, 2003)

Manchester United and Real Madrid are two of the most famous clubs in the world.   They went  head-to-head for a place in the semifinal, with Real holding a 3-1 advantage from the first leg at the Bernabeu.

The night belonged to Brazilian  Ronaldo, who was considered to be the best player in the world at that time.  He scored a  hat trick to put the Spanish side 6-3 up on aggregate just after halftime — and 3-2 ahead on the night.

With United desperately seeking a miraculous revival and failing to surrender. David Beckham, just months away from a transfer to Madrid, came on as a substitute and scored  a spectacular free kick and scoring another within five minutes.

United could not find the two extra goals needed to advance, but the seven goals and the high quality of soccer display that night made it one of the best games that I have seen in the last 10 years.  Take a look at some of the goals.
